RIO Trial Featured by Nature Medicine as One of the Clinical Trials Shaping Medicine in 2026
We’re thrilled to announce that the RIO clinical trial has been selected by Nature Medicine as one of the “Eleven clinical trials that will shape medicine in 2026.” The feature highlights the most impactful and forward‑looking trials set to influence patient care and scientific understanding in the coming year across a range of diseases and therapeutic approaches.
This recognition reflects the significance and potential of the RIO study’s approach in advancing HIV research and treatment strategies.
Our Chief Investigator, Professor Sarah Fidler, was interviewed for the piece. She explained the trial’s goal:
“The RIO trial is testing a new kind of HIV treatment using long-acting antibodies instead of daily pills. The hope is to give people long breaks from daily HIV medicine and maybe even help their own immune systems maintain lasting control of the virus.”
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to our participants, clinical teams, and collaborators who continue to drive this work forward.
